What is Masked Aadhaar Card?
A masked Aadhaar card is a version of the Aadhaar card where certain sensitive information is partially hidden or masked. The Aadhaar card is a unique identification document issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to residents of India.
Aadhar card contains personal information such as :
- Resident Name
- Aadhaar number (16 digits number)
- Biometric data (such as fingerprints and iris scans)
- Demographic details
The masked Aadhaar card was introduced by the UIDAI as a measure to enhance privacy and protect sensitive information. In a masked Aadhaar card, the Aadhaar number is partially hidden, showing only the last four digits, while the rest of the digits are replaced with asterisks (e.g., XXXX XXXX 1234). Additionally, some demographic details, such as the individual’s photograph, are also partially masked for privacy.
Masked Aadhaar cards can be used as a form of identification in various scenarios where sharing the Aadhaar number is not necessary, but verification of identity is still required. The masked version provides a balance between privacy and utility, as it prevents the full disclosure of sensitive information while allowing individuals to use Aadhaar as proof of identity.
It’s important to note that the specific guidelines and procedures to get a masked Aadhaar card may vary, so it’s recommended to refer to the official UIDAI website https://uidai.gov.in/. or contact their helpline for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
